100 Years Ago

A deal was closed this week where by the John O’Connell ranch property, one-half mile south of Bonners Ferry was purchased by A.B. Ashby, who will take possession in about 30 days.

Edward C. Gale, a resident of Bonners Ferry for 14 years, died suddenly at 10 o’clock Tuesday evening of heart failure. He came to Bonners Ferry with his family on Aug. 1, 1918, to take charge of the power plant of the Bonners Ferry Light and Water Co.

The sawmill of the Bonners Ferry Lumber Co. was shut down Tuesday after a most successful season’s run and a crew is now at work overhauling the machinery preparatory to the 1923 run.

The Bonners Ferry Chamber of Commerce meeting Tuesday at the Lantern Café was election oriented, but the new Bonners Ferry Junior Miss, Wendy Coram, stole the show.

The memorial to Art Zimmerman sponsored by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary, has been completed and is being installed this week at the cemetery. The monuments contain the names of Boundary County service men who died or were killed in action while serving their country.

Fred (Monte) Newhouse has been named port director at the Eastport Border Station by the regional office in Great Falls, Montana.

Three cases of potentially deadly virus MRSA have been confirmed in Boundary County School District, according to Superintendent Don Bartling.

Barb LePoideven dedicated her summer to growing a 668 pound pumpkin only to see it dropped onto a riding mower. The pumpkin — which for two weeks was on display at Boundary Tractor for customers to guess its weight — shattered into hundreds of pieces.

The Mt. Hall Mega Auction attracted a record 215 bidders from as far away as Coeur d’Alene, and both Washington and Canada. The auction made a record $68,000.
