Bayer's Title IX appreciated, welcomed

| November 17, 2022 1:00 AM

I received an email confirmation from Boundary County School District Superintendent Jan Bayer regarding the corrective action the Boundary County School District will be implementing to equalize the existing disproportionality and treatment disparities in equal education opportunity for girls and young women attending the secondary schools in the BCSD101.

Supt. Bayer has instituted thoughtful and proactive action to provide equal and proportional interscholastic athletic competition for females, by conducting proper girls sports interest surveys, as well as necessary collaboration with other schools in the competitive region. And actively addressing necessary equal treatment in accommodation factors including but not limited to scheduling, equipment and uniforms, practice and competitive facilities, and all other factors required under federal Title IX law.

In all of my 18 years working for Title IX advocacy with the U.S. Department of Education, involving many disparate school districts and post-secondary schools nationwide, I have never experienced the level of collaboration and cooperation from a school district superintendent like Jan Bayer. She is an administrative asset to the district of the highest caliber, taking on the accountability and responsibility to insure that all students attending the schools in the BCSD101 are treated with equality, dignity and fairness ensuring an equal opportunity education regardless of their gender.

I applaud the school board's choice of Superintendent Jan Bayer, and look forward to the successful rebalancing of equal participation opportunity for female students and their families in the interscholastic sports offered by the BCSD101.
