Districts: Badgers fly high over the Tigers
BONNERS FERRY — In the first round of districts, Badger volleyball defeated the Timberlake Tigers 3-0 — for the third time this season.
The Badgers are 12-9 overall and 2-0 in league.
In the first set, the Tigers took the lead early on, but the Badgers fought back and pulled away to gain a 10-7 lead.
After two long volleys and with Aspen Hill keeping the ball in play on the sideline, the Badgers moved ahead, making it 13-8. Asha Abubakari scored two massive kills for the Badgers, as the Tigers were unable to defend the assault making it 16-8.
Ellie Falck rotated in as a server and finished up the set. The Badgers took the win 25-12 with the final point scored by Helene Rae.
In the second set, the Badgers continued to outmaneuver the Tigers. Defenders hit the floor keeping the ball in play, setters were at the ready to set up Abubakari continued to attack. The Badgers went on an eight-point run and won again by double digits 25-8.
In the third set, Timberlake had a moment to come back and held with Badgers at 5-5. Unfortunately, after Abubakari executed a well-placed kill that ended with most of the Tiger squad ending up on the floor and their stamina didn’t return.
The Badgers won 25-12.
The district winner is decided by the best out of three matches. The Badgers played Timberlake at home on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Due to print deadline, the game will not be covered in this edition of the Herald. Visit our website www.bonnersferryherald.com for an update on Thursday.
If the Badgers defeat the Tigers on Wednesday, then they will go to state. If the Tigers win, then there will be a third match scheduled.
On Oct. 15, volleyball fell to Stillwater Christian 3-1; 16-25, 28-30, 27-25, 19-25.
On Oct. 13, the Badgers defeated Timberlake 3-0, 25-14, 25-13, 25-22.
Abubakari had nine kills, Rae had seven. Avery Bayer had five aces, Emma Lucas had four. Abubakari had one block. For digs, Abubakari had nine, Neveah Elliston had seven, Braylyn Bayer had six and Emma Lucas had three. Lucas had 18 assists.
In serve receiving, Elliston and Abubarkari had 11, Braylyn Bayer had 10 and Falck had five.
