100 Years Ago

Miss Pearl Howe and Arthur P. Zimmerman, popular young people of Bonners Ferry, were married yesterday morning.

Eight year old Edna Des Jardins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elza Des Jardins, was struck by the Great Northern mail train No. 28, eastbound, last Friday evening suffering a glancing blow off the pilot beam of the engine, just below her left temple. The child suffered no serious injuries and was able to return to school on Monday.

F.R. Richardson has on display in the Herald office several wonderful samples of the Wolf River apples grown on his place on the Northside.

Chuck Newhouse, Badger Staff Reporter, discovered that old issues of the Badger give an excellent portrayal of the school. It has been the mirror of school life here in Bonners Ferry for at least 58 years in one form or another.

Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Chubb drove to North Bend, Washington last week to pick up their daughter, Mrs. John Lefebvre, to be with them while John is at Naval reserve training at San Diego for two weeks.

What’s new out on the football field? Field Hockey! The girls P.E. classes are learning the skills of tackling, dribbling, and bullying. Field hockey is a game consisting of two teams with 11 members each.

By this week, patrons at Under the Sun can drink a glass of wine or have a beer. City Council during a recent meeting granted a beverage license to the eclectic downtown Main Street variety store and bistro with a stipulation.

Since the late 1990s, Marion McLain has donated 305,000 pop can tabs to Valley View, which are recycled and turned into money for the Ronald McDonald House in Spokane.

Bonners Ferry’s Dylan Sweeney paced the Badgers at 3A District 1 championships Friday with a ninth-place finish at Mirror Lake Golf Course.
