100 Years Ago

A deal was consummated last Friday where by the Favorite Confectionery Store was sold by W.D. Swindlehurst to W.E. Talmadge and H.J. Everett.

By a unanimous vote of the Kootenai Valley Commercial Club, at its weekly luncheon on Monday evening, a ways and means committee was appointed to start the big campaign for the raising of funds for the swimming pool to be built in the basement of the new city hall.

Vacation days will soon be over. The small boy will forsake his playtime haunts; the clatter of little feet and merry prattle of childish voices will no more be heard about the house, except in the early morning and evening. Yes, school to resume soon.

The Panhandle Snowmobile Club No. 45, Inc. met Tuesday night at the courthouse and took several actions to start a new season. They also agreed to ask for another snowmobile race here at the years’ end.

An unverified report, as we were going to press, indicates the Leonia Bridge will be closed tomorrow. The bridge, located over the Kootenai River, just into Montana, has been closed by Lincoln County, Montana Commissioners, the reason for the closing was not given.

Panhandle Public Health District appointed Mrs. Chris Kettner to the position of Public Health Nurse for Boundary County, effective July 24.

The owners of a vacant 8 acres on Bonners Ferry’s Main Street are planning a development that could include a grocery store, retail space, a bank, and offices.

Mayor Darrell Kerby will not run for a third, 4-year term. Kerby told the Herald his main reason for not seeking re-election on Nov. 6 is he feels every organization benefits from new blood.

The Bonners Ferry High School boys soccer team won two games at the season opening tournament in Orofino.
