Donald 'Don' Carter, 97

| September 8, 2022 1:00 AM

May 10, 1925 - Aug. 22, 2022

The man, the myth and the legend said goodbye at the ripe young age of 97. A World War II Navy veteran, pilot, Shriner and pillar of every community he entered; his passing will be felt throughout the Inland Northwest.

Don was a loving husband that spent the past 75 years with the love of his life, Louise. He was a dedicated father to Kathy (m. Milt), Diane, Donna, Chris (m. Danielle) and John; grandfather to 13 grandkids and nine great-grandkids.

Don never met a dog, kid or horse he didn’t like, nor a bottle of scotch. Too stubborn to grow old, he skied until he was 91, and fished until he was 95 when the risk of tipping them all out of the boat got to be too great; Don said the scotch was to blame, not the age.

A private celebration of life followed by a Shriner’s memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where Don and Louise have spent the past 37 years.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Don’s favorite charity that he actively participated in, the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.
