The campaign for the swimming pool fund commenced in earnest on Monday night when the High-V Hikers Club, composed of young ladies of this city, gave a benefit dance for the fund and cleared $102.30.

The work of re-timbering the county bridge across the Kootenai River here has been halted for the past two weeks through lack of material.

Beginning on Saturday, the Amazon theater will open at 7 o’clock in the evening instead of 7:30. Two performances will be given each evening, the same as before.

Dennis Ponsness lease of the new South Hill Chevron station, has promised many excellent door prizes, refreshments, a free pop with purchase, and a full inspection to those that attend the Open House Grand Opening of the facility this weekend.

A fire of unknown origin under a gigantic propane tank a Ball Creek Pellet Mill last night ruptured safety valves on the top of the container and ignited escaping fuel. Flames shot an estimated 250 feet skyward and could be seen in many portions of the county.

In an effort to finish the new building at the fairgrounds the Jaycees are holding a work day this Saturday, Sept. 9, starting at 9 a.m. Don Morice, chairman of the committee, stated all persons wishing to help in covering the slab are more than welcome.

A bullet from a large caliber handgun was found inside Naples Elementary School on Aug. 30. A deputy with Boundary County Sheriff’s office believes the bullet- possibly from a .44 caliber handgun- came from someone shooting in the area.

Construction is expected to begin this month on a new Boundary County Head Start Center near Boundary Community Hospital.

All of Welco’s 60 full-time employees on Monday are expected to return after a two-week shut-down.
