Gareth F.R. Abell

| September 30, 2022 10:09 AM

On Friday, August 19, 2022, Gareth F.R. Abell of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, painlessly and peacefully joined his beloved Marcella in death at the age of 78.

Gareth loved the quiet and solitude of the Paradise Valley home he and Marcella shared. Having retired from teaching at Sandpoint High School, in recent years he delighted in riding his 4-wheeler through the wooded trails and watching the wildlife via his trail cams.

Gareth was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gold panning and rockhounding with friends and family whenever the opportunity presented itself.

Gareth is survived by his three children, five grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and multiple children of his heart.

He left a message for all of us in the form of a quote from his favorite author, Louis L’Amour. “When I die, remember that what you knew of me is with you always. What is buried is only the shell of what was.  Do not regret the shell but remember the man.” – Last of the Breed, Bantam Books, 1987.

We will be celebrating Gareth’s life at 11 a.m. on Oct. 1, 2022, at his Paradise Valley home. A potluck for family and friends will follow, please be sure to bring your own chair.
