DYW participants 4-6 announced
Three more participants in this year’s Distinguished Young Women of Bonners Ferry are announced. DYW of Bonners Ferry is part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women. Junior girls from Boundary County participate in the local program.
Cash scholarships are awarded at the local level and millions in college-granted scholarships are available ($1 billion nationally). Local winners will advance to the state program in Idaho Falls where they give away more than $38,000 in cash tuition scholarships.
Markynn Rose Pluid — Participant No. 4
Markynn Rose Pluid is sponsored by the Beta Sigma Phi and Bonners Ferry Rod Benders. She is the daughter of Justin and Shannon Pluid. She has three sisters: Jerzie, Avery, and Eberley, and three brothers: Pacen, Cardon, Oakley. Markynn plans to attend the College of Idaho to study Architecture. Markynn finds modern personality President Russell Nelson interesting, as well as historical personalities Rosa Parks and Abraham Lincoln.
In her spare time, Markynn enjoys hiking, playing basketball and soccer, and riding horses. She participates in 4-H, track, basketball, and soccer. For her talent, Markynn will be performing ballet.
When asked what makes her least proud of her generation, Markynn cites social media, stating, “So many people in my generation are worried about their looks, how many followers they have, and how many views or likes they get. They base their mood on what others think of them. This is not good for anyone’s health.”
Braylyn Violet Bayer — Participant No. 5
Braylyn Violet Bayer, sponsored by American Legion and Bonners Ferry Rotary Club, is the daughter of Curt and Jan Bayer. She has one sister, Avery. Braylyn plans on attending college to pursue a career as a corporate attorney. In her spare time, Braylyn participates in golf, basketball, cross country, and student government. She enjoys golfing and running in her spare time.
Modern personalities that interest Braylyn are Nelly Korda and Eli Manning, and a historical figure that interests her is Ruth Bader Ginsberg. For her talent, Braylyn will be performing a skit.
When asked what makes Braylyn most proud of her generation she states, “I am most proud that my generation is creative in pursuing different careers such as trade schools which allow us to enter the work force more quickly.”
Adelaide Beverly Heigel — Participant No. 6
Adelaide Beverly Heigel, the daughter of Julie McCulla and Dave and Beverly Heigel, is sponsored by Bonner Ferry Eagle Aerie No. 3522 and Eagles Auxiliary. She has one sister, Mia, and four brothers, C.J., Jeremy, Dylan and Myles. Addy is undecided what she plans to study, but she plans to attend Brigham Young University or Brigham Young University Idaho to pursue her education.
Addy enjoys riding horses, barrel racing, and playing sports. She participates in 4-H, soccer, gymnastics, and track. Addy is interested by modern personality Simone Biles and historical personality Jesus Christ. For her talent, Addy will be performing a gymnastics routine.
When asked what makes her least proud of her generation, Addy states, “I am least proud of our addiction to social media and technology.”
The DYW program is scheduled for April 29. Leading up to the event, articles on the program and participants will appear in the Bonners Ferry Herald.
