PEO yard sale for local scholarships
Bonners Ferry’s P.E.O. Chapter is hosting a yard sale Friday, April 14, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 158 Meadow Creek Road, Bonners Ferry, ID. All proceeds from the yard sale supports college scholarships for young women in Boundary County.
The yard sale will include clothes, household goods, fabric, and plants for your home and garden. P.E.O. is a women’s philanthropic organization that promotes and supports educational advancement of women.
Bonners Ferry’s P.E.O. Chapter AP began their annual scholarship award program in 1956 and has provided 36 college scholarships for local women since 2000. They have also sponsored seven Distinguished Young Women candidates, including 2023’s candidate, Ana Chase.
In addition to the spring yard sale, Bonners Ferry’s chapter sells nuts as a fundraiser each year before the holidays.

Lindsay Cink at the Bonners Ferry High School, (208) 267-3149 ext 1107. In addition to local high school scholarships, P.E.O. offers educational loans, needs-based scholarships for women returning to school after an interruption, and scholarships for international students to pursue graduate work.
One of the oldest women’s organizations in the country, P.E.O. was founded in Iowa in 1869. The Bonners Ferry Chapter was founded on April 20, 1937. The fifteen charter members included Mary Viley Hawkins, Edna Pace, Margaret Wilson, Marie Bowell, Clara Reed, Myrta Fry, Rachel Rosebaugh, Alice Howe, Ethel McBride, Gladys Bittinger, Martha Klockmann, Violet Potter, Grace McNamara, Alma King and Mary Monks.
