Crocker returns to emcee DYW program
Kris Crocker returns as the emcee for this year’s Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Women Scholarship program April 29, at 6:30 pm. Crocker has emceed for the program in the past and is again lending her talents this year.
Crocker, the chief meteorologist at KXLY, has been recognized with five Emmy nominations and has earned the coveted “Seal of Approval" from both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. She completed the broadcast meteorology program at Mississippi State University and earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in journalism and communications at Oklahoma State University.
Crocker started her weather career in her hometown of Idaho Falls in 1993. She’s also worked at television stations in Lansing and Flint, Mich.
She and her husband Jerry, have three children: Sophie, Danny and Gabrielle. They also share their home with several cats and dogs. The Crockers love to practice yoga and take advantage of the many outdoor activities in the Inland Northwest, such as skiing, snowboarding, running and golfing.
Crocker has played violin with the Spokane Falls Community Orchestra, is an avid Spokane Symphony goer, and is a member of the Spokane Symphony Associates. She is an active fundraiser for many local charity organizations, and is the driving force behind 4 News Now’s Coats 4 Kids campaign.
The local Distinguished Young Women committee members said they are grateful to Crocker for taking the time to host this year’s program, and welcome her and her family back to Bonners Ferry.
Tickets for this year’s show, “Jurassic Quest,” are on sale for $12 at Mountain Mike’s Health Food Store. All seating is reserved.
The participant chosen as this year’s Distinguished Young Woman of Bonners Ferry will represent the community at the state competition in Idaho Falls this coming October. Should she win there, she will represent Idaho in the national finals to be held in June 2024.
