DYW participate in 'Be Your Best Self Week'
Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Women is excited to participate in National Be Your Best Self Week, taking place April 17-21. National Be Your Best Self Week is a national outreach effort led by program participants across the country to spread the Be Your Best Self message to as many young people as possible.
Be Your Best Self is the community service and self-development portion of the Distinguished Young Women Program across the nation, including Bonners Ferry. The five elements of the Be Your Best Self Program are:
Be healthy — be physically fit and drug free.
Be involved — serve your community.
Be studious — stay in school.
Be ambitious — set and achieve goals.
Be responsible — live by moral and ethical principles
From the outset of the program, the participants engage in community service and community outreach programs. This year, the six DYW participants have engaged in several projects including: volunteering at the Hope House, volunteering during 4-H Friday Friends, learning about the BYBS tenants from local speakers, creating vision boards, and most importantly, mentoring sixth graders from the middle school, known as the “Little Miss” program.
The DYW Program thanks the community for helping to make BYBS a great experience for the participants.
On Thursday, April 20, the DYW participants will be holding a fundraiser, made possible by the Kootenai River Inn. Between 4-8 p.m., the DYW participants will be helping to serve guests at the Springs Restaurant, working on their public speaking and public engagement. Any tips or donations made will be donated to local causes of the DYW participants’ choosing, like the Hope House.
The DYW participants invite the community to come “Tip a Diamond Dino” and have a nice dinner, all while helping the community.
