Distinguished Young Woman Moellmer to welcome this years recipient
Leah Moellmer, the Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Woman for 2022-2023, will take the stage at the Becker Auditorium one final time on April 29 at this year's program to welcome the new recipient of the title.
The past year has brought opportunities to represent Bonners Ferry and the Distinguished Young Women program. Leah was able to participate in events representing DYW, including speaking at the Boundary County Fair Opening Ceremonies and working with this year’s participants as they prepare for the program.
As part of the DYW program statewide, Leah participated in several Be Your Best Self Projects including assembling diaper bags for foster families through The Village in Blackfoot, Idaho, and assembling period and hygiene kits through the Idaho Period Project.
Last October, Leah and 31 other representatives from around the state traveled to Idaho Falls where they spent one week learning routines in preparation for the state competition. The final result was many new friendships, great memories and character building.
This month brings the end of a great adventure and brings Leah’s Distinguished Young Woman experience full circle, as she helps prepare the current group of participants for the upcoming Program.
“It has been such a blessing to watch the 10 girls from last year, and the six this year grow, learn and become closer to each other,” Leah said. “I truly love every one of these girls and I am so grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to get to know them these past years. I have loved the opportunities this program has given me to give back to my community. I am constantly blown away by our community’s generosity for scholarships, community events and service for people in need. After being on the receiving end of all of your generosity, I have loved having a chance to give back to you.”
Leah Maurine Moellmer is the daughter of Edward and Alisa Moellmer. She has five sisters, Kelly, Jane, Joan, Sammie and Maggie. After graduation, Leah is planning to attend Idaho State University to study social work and eventually become a psychologist.
This year’s program is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the Becker Auditorium in Bonners Ferry. Tickets are $12 each, and are currently on sale at Mountain Mike’s Health Food Store.
