Suspect charged in murder and arson case

BOUNDARY COUNTY — A suspect has been charged with second degree murder and arson relating to an incident in 2020.

The Boundary County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in conjunction with the Idaho State Police and Boundary County Sheriff’s Office announce that Shannon P. Dabbs, 57, has been charged with murder in the second degree and arson in the first degree relating to the Sept. 22, 2020, shooting death of Susan Dabbs and residence fire at a Boundary County address, BCSO announced in a press release Wednesday.

Probable cause was found and an arrest warrant was issued on July 7. The defendant made his first appearance in Boundary County on Aug. 1 and is currently in custody. A preliminary hearing on the charges is currently scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 10 at 1:30 p.m. in front of Magistrate Judge Justin Julian.

The charges in this case have been the result of almost three years of investigation by the Idaho State Police and Boundary County Sheriff’s Office, with consultation of the Idaho State Fire Marshall and the Spokane division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. The Boundary County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office thanks these agencies for their work in bringing this case to charging.
