Local granges were organized by rural communities as a social hub, and a place for agricultural education. It was quite common for a Grange Hall to be used as a gathering place for youth programs, celebrations, parties, weddings, square dances, music, presentations, speakers, classes and ceremonies.

This photo, from the late 1940s, is an exhibit at the county fair showing some of the many products created by the local granges.

The Boundary County Historical Society and Museum, 7229 Main St., Bonners Ferry, Idaho, sponsors this column. Visit the museum Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and you can visit the website at www.boundarycountymuseum.org or the museum’s Facebook page for historical photos and stories, and to see upcoming events.
