MOYIE SPRINGS — A local man who was reported missing Saturday has been found dead Monday after a fatal car crash.

Boundary County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person about 7:30 p.m. Monday, BCSO officials said in a press release. The family of Denzel Tucker, 24, reported that he was last seen with friends in the Moyie Springs area on Saturday, Aug. 12, around midnight.

Tucker's family members had been trying to locate him prior to reporting him missing.

Deputies began checking the Moyie Springs area for him, officials wrote. Monday morning at 8:50 a.m., a city of Moyie Springs employee located an overturned vehicle near the intersection of Roosevelt and Canyon View roads.

Boundary County Undersheriff Rick Stephens said the employee was operating a backhoe and was high enough off the ground to see the wreck.

The vehicle matched the description of Denzel Tucker’s vehicle. Deputies responded to the scene and found him still inside the vehicle, deceased.

Evidence at the scene indicated that he was the sole occupant of the vehicle, traveling eastbound on Roosevelt Road at a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate a curve in the road and struck a tree, officials wrote in the press release. The vehicle had come to rest in bushes along the roadway, making it difficult to see.

Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer said evidence indicates that Tucker most likely died on impact, but the cause of death will be determined by the county coroner.
