UPDATE: The performance is again rescheduled due to Friday's football game being canceled.

BONNERS FERRY — Due to air quality, Badger cheer campers were unable to perform at the Badger football Blue and White scrimmage. Instead, they will have the chance to perform on Sept. 1 at the first home game.

Bonners Ferry High School head cheer coach Christian “Chris” Gaffield said unfortunately the campers’ performance during the scrimmage last Friday night was canceled due to air quality levels reaching unhealthy levels at 194 on the air quality index.

Children face special risks from air pollution, because they are so active and breathe in large quantities of air and their lungs are still growing, the American Lung Association officials wrote.

The performance was rescheduled to the first home game for Badger football. Camp T-shirts can be picked up at the high school office.

Gaffield apologized that the event would take place over Labor Day weekend, but ultimately the decision was made by the high school’s athletic director.

Gaffield said Badger Cheer did an incredible job performing at the scrimmage.

She said the team is planning to continue cheering on the sidelines, but with the bleachers under construction and Badger fans now sitting on the track, which has been historically used for Badger cheer, the team will have to get creative.

Brenna Steward and Eloisa Gorino have been named cheer captains for the football season. To be eligible as captain a variety of qualities are considered, from leadership skills, attitude, cheer knowledge and votes of support by fellow teammates.

Gaffield said she is excited to see the team grow during football season before entering competition in December.
