Schweitzer to remain closed until Saturday

The region's skiers and snowboarders are going to have to wait another day before hitting the slopes.

Schweitzer officials announced Thursday that the resort would remain closed until Saturday due to poor weather conditions.

With warm weather and near-constant rain, much of the resort's snow was affected, forcing the resort to close Tuesday.

However, crews were able to get out on the mountain Thursday and take a look at conditions. 

"We received over six [inches] of rain this week, so the slopes took a heavy hit," officials said the resort's website. "Good news is that the trails that had snowmaking were able to withstand the impact and we are planning to reopen the Basin Express and the Carpet this Saturday."

While Schweitzer had hoped to reopen Friday, by remaining closed an additional day, officials said the resort would be able to make more snow and get trails in shape for skiing.
