Joanne Young, 71

| December 14, 2023 1:00 AM

Joanne Wombacher Young passed away Nov. 12, 2023, after a valiant two-and-a-half-year battle against metastatic cancer. She was surrounded by her husband, Tom, and three children, Katy, Kevin and Danny.

Joanne was born July 29, 1952, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Joe Wombacher (the town mayor) and Alma Wombacher. Joanne graduated from Bonners Ferry High School. Joanne was a cheerleader and homecoming princess during that time. She was also a Job’s daughter princess and would go on to attend Idaho University.

Joanne moved to Denver in March 1972, where she would meet the love of her life, Tom. Tom and Joanne both started working at Central Bank on the same day. Joanne would eventually leave the banking industry and start a new role at Newmyer Contracting. She would be the office manager/accountant at Newmyer for the next 35 years before retiring in 2015. She and Tom also ran a youth sports program for over 30 years.

After a short courtship, Tom and Joanne were married on Aug. 4, 1973, and celebrated 50 years of marriage this year. Tom and Joanne had three children and six grandchildren during this time.

Joanne loved being a mom and especially a grandma. She enjoyed sports and loved watching her kids and grandkids play football, baseball, basketball and swim. Her kind, gentle spirit radiated through her entire family. She truly was a wonderful woman who made the world a better place by her goodness.

Joanne was preceded in death by her father, Joe, and her mother, Alma. She is survived by her husband, Tom; daughter Katy; son Kevin (Leah); son Danny (Alex); six grandkids, Bailey, Madison, Makinna, Hayden, Quinn and Cameron; brother Ken (Debbie;) and twin brother, Bob (Blanca).

Interment was held at Mount Olive Cemetery in Golden, Colo.

Joanne will be deeply missed by all and may she rest in peace.
