100 Years Ago
Sheriff Wm. Dunning and his deputies, C.R. Knight and Wm. Welch, captured two auto loads of liquor near the Canadian boundary on the old Fort Steele trail early Monday morning. Sixty-six cases of whiskey were found in the two cars and on the ground nearby. As the officers approached one car the occupants started shooting and fired four shots. Deputy Sheriff Knight returned the fire and the bootleggers took to the weeds.
The gasoline tank for the Texas Oil Company station here arrived last week and has been put in place on the right-of-way of the Spokane International Railway Company. The company will begin business here this week.
Ivan, the 12-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. George R. Causton, was painfully injured Tuesday evening in a coasting accident on the schoolhouse hill, when the sled on which he and Bobby King were riding, skidded on an icy stretch and ran into a telephone pole.

The 8.38 inches of  precipitation recorded for the past month of November is an all-time record for that month in this area, according to information received from the National Weather Service by local weather observer Arlo Grunerud.
Heavyweight Mike Young of the Bonners Ferry Boxing Club knocked out Nick Glaovich of Nelson, B.C. with only 21 seconds elapsed in the first round Saturday night as the local club won 10 of 13 bouts in a five-club fight card. For his impressive win, Young received the outstanding fighter award in the over 100 pound division. Taylor Abraham at 75 pounds won a hard-fought unanimous decision over Dick Maravella of the Spokane Boxing Club which earned him the Outstanding Fighter Trophy for the under 100 pounds division.

It’s volunteers like Shirley Facha who make the Annual Fry Healthcare Foundation Festival of Trees a success. A floral designer for 25 years, Facha made three large centerpieces for the festivals Gala Auction Dinner. She also made 12 centerpieces for tables, which will be sold for $60 each, and the grand entry garland. The Festival of Trees opens today with Community Night. Anyone who donates a canned good gets in free. Canned goods will go for the Ministerial Associations Christmas Food Baskets.
After growing up in the Food-Service industry, partners Charles Schrock, and Darrell and Dorothy Chubb opened a bakery on Tuesday, north of Three-Mile. The bakery is located in a new 18,000 square foot building constructed by Panhandle Nail Benders.
