Christmas is a great time to register

This Christmas season is a great opportunity for parents to help their college students register to vote and request absentee ballots for their college addresses.

Registration and the ballot requests can be made by taking proof of student residence to the County Clerk’s office at the Courthouse downtown on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Then, if your student wants to help get the Open Primaries Initiative on the 2024 ballot, contact a local volunteer whom you know is collecting registered voters’ signatures.

As the lead for the Boundary County team, I also welcome anyone wanting to sign the petition to come to my house, 6449 Baxter St., in Bonners Ferry. We are at the center of the L-shaped street located between Madison and Buffalo. The Open Primaries banner is above the door.

Our district, which includes Boundary County and part of Bonner County, is one of seven that have gathered more than 6% of their registered voters to help qualify the Initiative for next year’s ballot in November. 

Every signature we gather from here on helps with the total number needed for the whole state.
