MERIDIAN — Boundary County Middle School sixth grader Dalton Regehr (80) took third at the middle school state championship.

Dalton went 6-1 at the state championship, winning three of his matches via pin (Drexdyn Coleman, Meridian, 0:35; Kash Barendregt, Kimberly, 0:34; and Liam Takashige, New Plymouth, 0:26). After falling in the quarterfinals, Dalton went on to win four matches in the consolation bracket and defeated Gage Green of Madison Middle School by a 9-3 decision, earning third place out of 33 wrestlers in his weight class.

Regehr competed for Sandpoint Middle School since no other Bonners Ferry wrestler competed and earned 26 points for Bullpups to finish fourth out of 67 teams. He practices with the Sandpoint Legacy Team every other day when not practicing with Bonners Ferry Wrestling Club.

On Dec. 9, Dalton also competed at the Clearwater Rumble for Club and took on 12U 82 and Middle School 77-83 brackets. He came away first in both brackets and won the outstanding wrestlers award.

Dalton is used to competition. In 2021, he was the 10U 67, freestyle and Greco-Roman state champion, while also earning the folkstyle championship earlier that year.

Following his success in 2022, he took second Idaho Greco-Roman and Freestyle State Championships.
