Rickter takes first at North Idaho Rumble, five Badgers place
COEUR d’ALENE — Five Badger wrestlers placed at the North Idaho Rumble last weekend, with Savannah Rickter (G152, 21-1) becoming a two-time champion after pinning her Coeur d’Alene High School opponent in the third round.
With less than 40 seconds left in the final round, Rickter was up by five points over Coeur d’Alene’s Cara Brown (20-7). In the last seconds of the match, Rickter then put Brown on her back for a pin.
For Badger boys wrestling, Brandon Willaims (107, 20-8) took second.
Three other Badger girls placed in the tournament, with Nevaeh Therrien (G107) taking second, Gena Kelsy (G138) taking third and Lindsey Onstott (G152) taking fourth.
Overall, the Badgers finished 19 out of 20 teams and competed against teams across Idaho and Washington from an array of classifications.
Badger wrestling will host the Conrad Garner Tournament on Friday, Feb. 3, at 5 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 4, at 9 a.m. Friday will be the wrestling duals and Saturday will be the tournament.
There will also be a silent auction to raise money for the wrestling club.
