GIRLS BASETBALL: Timberlake wins Game 1 at Districts
SPIRIT LAKE — Leading by nine points after one quarter, the host Tigers held the Badgers to two second-quarter points in capturing Game 1 of the best-of-3 series for the 3A District 1 title.
“We had a good first quarter, especially offensively. The second quarter we did a better job defensively,” said Timberlake coach Matt Miller. “In the second quarter I think fatigue got to them; we wore them down a little bit.”
Malia Miller hit four 3-pointers, two in the third quarter, and finished with 18 points for Timberlake (19-2), which outscored the Badgers 13-2 in the second quarter to increase its lead to 31-11 at halftime. Jenna Chase scored all nine of her points in the first half.
Asha Abubakari scored nine points for Bonners Ferry (10-10).
Game 2 is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Timberlake. Due to print deadline results on Game 2 will be on our website on Thursday morning.
