Where were our officials at town hall?

| February 9, 2023 1:00 AM

This past Saturday, Feb. 4, Bonners Ferry was host to a town hall meeting at which Idaho Sen. Scott Herndon, R-Sagle and Idaho Rep. Sage Dixon, R-Pondaray, spoke. Mr. Sauter was absent. There was decent public attendance, but noticeably missing were any Boundary County commissioners or city council members.

Scott Herndon is on the Finance and Education committee in Boise and there are bills that would have been of interest to our local elected folks. Certainly, questions about the financial problems that we are experiencing here in Boundary County could have been posed, perhaps obtaining solutions or avenues to help with the city of Bonners Ferry's budget shortfall. Instead, as evidenced at the last city council meeting, their solution is always tax, tax, and more tax.

I also failed to see any of the school board there. Their constant complaint is about deteriorating infrastructure, and their answer is always another bond or levy (tax, tax, and more tax!). Now, lost is the opportunity to speak directly to the Education Committee member, who had much to say about this issue. Do they even know just how strong the members of the Education Committee are during this legislative session?

Zzzzz was the choice last Saturday … officially, of course.
