North Haven Campground: A new era for luxury log cabins and RV sites

| February 16, 2023 1:00 AM

THREE MILE — Bonners Ferry residents Munro and Rachel Murdock are the proud new owners of a campground — and to celebrate, have rebranded the business as North Haven Campground.

The campground has five luxury log cabins, a log cabin-style bathhouse building and 21 RV sites situated on 3.7 acres, purchased by the couple from Log Inn.

The Murdocks are working to implement various property improvements and amenity upgrades. The business is located just off the west side of Highway 95, on Tobe Way, a few miles north of Bonners Ferry, and across the highway from the new Sturgeon Station development under construction. The owners of the Log Inn Bonners Ferry continue to operate their accommodations business, across the street from North Haven Campground.

In 2021, after spending many years in Hawaii operating a successful real estate brokerage (Love Hawaii Realty) and vacation rental management business (Love Hawaii Villas), the Murdocks decided to relocate their family back to "the mainland," and chose Bonners Ferry as their new home.

Once settled, the Murdocks started to explore business and investment opportunities. It was important to them to invest close to home and to focus on doing something that would contribute to the local economy and create job opportunities for Boundary County residents.

After meeting the owners of the Log Inn Bonners Ferry and learning of their interest in selling the luxury log cabins and RV sites side of their business, the Murdocks decided to pursue the opportunity further and ultimately completed the business acquisition in November 2022.

The owners of the Log Inn Bonners Ferry shared a post about the business transition on their Facebook page in late October, and assured future guests that their reservations would be honored.

"Munro and Rachel have amazing plans to further improve the property and take it to levels we could have only imagined," they said in the post, adding they wished them nothing but the highest level of success.

The Murdocks said they have big plans for the future and have been adding various amenities and services for guests staying at North Haven Campground.

"We have many exciting enhancements in the works for North Haven and will be adding two conestoga glamping wagons with private bathrooms by the summer of 2023,” Munro Murdock said. “We have opened 'The Outpost' camp store and office in the front of The Bathhouse log building and have added washers and dryers to the laundry room for guest convenience.”

In addition, playground equipment will be installed and the Murdocks’ authentic Hawaiian shave ice business will also be operating on site by this summer. The couple have future plans to add more full hook-up RV sites and other glamping options.

Nestled in a wooded setting, North Haven Campground is 2.5 miles north of Bonners Ferry. Guest accommodation options include five luxury log cabins (1-bedroom and 2-bedroom floor plans), 21 RV sites as well as an on-site camp store and a nature walking trail loop.
