MOSCOW — Badger girl wrestling took second at the Division I & II District Wrestling Championships by one point, with three Bonners Ferry wrestlers taking first and earning the title district champion and four Badgers advancing to state this weekend.

Every Badger girl wrestler that competed at districts will advance to state.

This year at Division I & II District Wrestling Championships, the top two girls wrestlers advanced to state. Last year only the district champion of each weight class advanced to the state tournament.

Junior Savannah Rickter (165, 22-2) was named two-time district champion. Last year, Rickter finished third at the first girls Idaho State Folkstyle Wrestling Championships.

Also earning the district championship title was junior Aubrey Wells (138, 8-10) and freshman Neveah Therrien (107, 20-5).

Junior Lindsay Onstott (152, 14-13) took second to Cara Brown of Coeur d’Alene High School (5A), but still punched her ticket to the state championship. Onstott lost by a 16-14 decision.

In 2022, Bonners Ferry girls wrestling won the District I & II title. This season, the team has dominated on the mat and won nearly every tournament they’ve competed at in North Idaho.

Lewiston hosted the largest team with seven girls, still six wrestlers shy to fill every weight class. 53 girls competed at the Division I & II District Wrestling Championships with teams averaging three wrestlers.

Parent Kristie Rickter told the Herald that the Badgers girls wrestling team have helped put Bonners Ferry on the map when it comes to girls division wrestling and they are continuing to make history by laying a strong foundation for future female wrestlers.
