100 Years Ago
Nicholas Scherer died at 11:20 Tuesday night at the Bonners Ferry hospital of injuries received Monday morning at the Brown Timber Company’s logging camp near Naples when he was struck by a falling tree.
A deal is being concluded today for the bonding in the sum of $100,000 of the Starrite group of four claims, located two miles north of the Bethlehem Gold Mines, in the Copeland district, to Byron McDonald and Ben Gaskell, lately of Talache, Idaho.
County Assessor W.C. Reid again calls to the attention of automobile owners in Boundary County that they must purchase 1923 auto licenses at once or else suffer the full consequences of the law, involving a heavy penalty.

It was a happy bunch of Badger Frosh that returned victorious from a Libby Christmas Holiday basketball tournament recently. The baby Badgers dropped the hosts, 52-45, opening night and went on for an easy win over Eureka 79-52.
Students at Bonners Ferry High School were forced to evacuate the building Wednesday afternoon after a bomb threat was phoned to Principal Robert Compton about 1p.m., according to Police Chief Don Hamilton.
The traffic light at the intersection of Bonner and Main Street will be returned to operation again this Friday due to many requests received by the City Council, stated Police Chief Don Hamilton.

A public hearing will be held at 1:30pm, Tuesday, Jan. 8, as Boundary County attempts to get two grants totaling $100,000 for improving the Copeland boat launch and buying a new patrol jet boat.
Bonners Ferry native, Brian Zimmerman has been promoted to lieutenant with the Idaho State Police. As part of his new job, Zimmerman transferred from Pocatello to Boise.
Alberto’s Mexican Restaurant is moving “south” and merging with the restaurant at Bear Creek Lodge. The restaurant will be called “Alberto’s at Bear Creek” and will offer Mexican cuisine and steak.
Porthill within a number of weeks went from having no gas stations to two. With the addition of gas pumps at Porthill Mercantile and the opening of Main Street in November, a gas war has emerged at Boundary County’s remote Canadian port of entry, with gas at $2.93 a gallon, both stores have the cheapest gas from Canada to Spokane.
