BONNERS FERRY — Sandpoint claimed the B-Cup for the seventh time in nine years Tuesday, defeating the Badgers 47-36.

The Badgers were down 0-24 after three wrestlers were pinned and Sandpoint received a forfeit.

Badger Saber Blackmore (98) inspired the team and the crowd, going into the third period and winning by pin, putting the Badgers on the board.

Bonners Ferry head coach Kevin Campbell said when forfeiting a total of two matches, the Badgers knew they would have to win more matches against Sandpoint.

“We had an opportunity. We won some key matches that kept us in it […] that’s all we can ask for,” he said. “We just came up one match short.”

He said the team is happy for the opportunity to compete against Sandpoint every year in a fun dual. And, in the past few years as the dual has gotten increasingly competitive.

“The crowd was excited, and we got to highlight the girls,” he said.

Badger girl wrestlers Lindsey Onstott and Savannah Rickter won by pin against their Bulldog opponents. No other girls wrestlers competed in an exhibition match due to not having an opponent in their weight class.

Campbell added that if the girls' matches counted toward the B-Cup, the Badgers would have won.
