Moyie Springs outdoor market enters second month of operation
MOYIE SPRINGS — Moyie Springs outdoor market enters its second month of operation, vendors are hopeful word of mouth will drive traffic.
The summer market opened at the beginning of June and runs every Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Lille Blackwell is one of the organizers for the market and said the idea for starting the market was from community demand after a successful Winter Bizarre, which was hosted at Moyie City Hall.
Blackwell said Moyie Springs is such a sleepy hollow of a community and that residents want to have something local. At this time, Blackwell and vendors are trying to grow the market and fundraiser for additional signage.
On the first Saturday of every month, food vendors are regularly in attendance. Blackwell said that in June two lemonade stands were manned by young entrepreneurs. She added that several kids sell crafts and other homemade goods on the Saturday market.
Carla Clark, a consistent vendor at local craft and holiday fairs said she enjoys selling her jams and teas at the Moyie Summer Market since there are no vendor fees.
A craft and costume vendor, Shirley Brush, was optimistic that once marketgoers were informed of the market hours, then more will turn out.
“The more we’re consistent [as vendors], the more people will come,” Brush said.
Vendors and marketgoers park their cars in the Moyie Springs City Hall parking lot, right next to the city park.
Donna Wilson-Funkhouser, Moyie Springs city clerk, said from city hall, she sees vendors come and go as they please throughout market day.
Moyie Springs outdoor market is every Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. and the first Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside Moyie Springs City Hall, 3331 Roosevelt Road, Moyie Springs.
