The Sandpoint 12U All-stars will be advancing to the District 1 championship game where they will face Coeur d’Alene, after defeating Post Falls 7-1 on Sunday. The best-of-three series will take place July 14-16 at Croffoot Park in Hayden.

Bonners Ferry's own Gordon Woelfle plays for Sandpoint.

Sandpoint took control of the game against Post Falls early by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Henry Madden and Gordon Woelfle both had run-scoring singles in the inning; Mac Peters started the rally with a line-drive double to deep left field.

Heading into the bottom of the fifth, Sandpoint led 4-1, but ended up sealing the deal by tacking on three more runs. With the bases loaded and only one out, Sandpoint’s Jake Peak sent a line drive through the middle of the infield to score Trevor Tadic. Two at-bats later, Coen Leavitt did the exact same thing to score Brady Yarbrough.

Sandpoint pitchers tallied 13 strikeouts in just six innings. Yarbrough dominated Post Falls through 3 2/3 innings working through three hits, two walks, and striking out an impressive eight batters. Woelfle and Kaleb Bogadi only gave up a combined three hits in relief; Woelfle fanned two batters while Bogadi sat down three others.

The Sandpoint 12U All-star team (5-1) will have their work cut out for them against CDA this upcoming weekend in the Championship best 2 of 3 series. The CDA all-star team has outscored their opponents 76-0 in District 1 pool play.

Games will be Friday July 14 5:45p, Saturday July 15 12:30p, and then Sunday July 16 12:30p if needed. All games are to be held at Croffoot Sports Complex in Hayden, ID.

Whichever team comes out on top will head to the state playoff in Boise to face a team from District 2, southern Idaho.
