Olaf Lethrud, 93

Olaf Lethrud, 93, passed away at Kootenai Health on July 3, 2023.

Olaf was born on March 18, 1930, in Ambrose, N.D., the son of Peter and Julie Johnson Lethrud, and was one of 11 children. Their family moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, in 1936 where he attended school and graduated in 1948. After graduating, he entered the Air Force and served for four years.

Upon returning he met his future wife, Carole, and were married in 1959. They welcomed two children, Calista and Marty. He worked for many years in the local lumber mills, retiring from the Moyie Springs Mill.

Olaf enjoyed being outside in any capacity that he could — hunting, fishing, spending time in his garden and doing yard work. He and his wife truly enjoyed traveling around the United States with family. Anytime spent with family was time that he enjoyed.

Olaf is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carole; and their two children, Calista (Ralph) Beier and Marty Lethrud; as well as six grandchildren, Dustin, Nicole, Mark, Stephanie, Preston and Austin. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Duchy, Elenore, Anna, Clara, Marie, Helen, Agie and Henry.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home.
