School board trustee vacancy announced
BONNERS FERRY — Boundary County School District’s Zone 3 trustee position is vacant as of July 17, with Niki Weaver announcing she is moving out of state and vacating the seat.
The move by Weaver and her family takes her out of Zone 3 and disqualifies her from continuing to sit on the board.
“I’m so grateful for all my time that I’ve had to serve with each board member and with Superintendent [Jan] Bayer,” Weaver wrote the board when announcing her resignation. “I’ve learned and grown so much from all of you. It’s been such a privilege to serve the students and staff in our district these past few years. I will very much miss all of you and this wonderful district and wish everyone the very best moving forward.”
Weaver told the Herald she is grateful to Zone 3 voters for putting their trust in her and allowing her to serve the community.
Per Idaho Code, the vacancy will be filled by appointment by the board. Applicants will be interviewed prior to the appointment, and the appointee shall complete the vacated term.
There are approximately four months left on the four-year term, after which the appointee will need to run for the election held in November 2023 to keep the seat.
Zone 3 covers Bonners Ferry east of the U.S. 95, a small area north of Kootenai River, east to the bank of the Kootenai River and north of the western part of Kootenai Trail. For more information on the zone, go online to Boundary County’s website, the BCSD central office, 7188 Oak St., Bonners Ferry, the Boundary County Clerk’s office, or on the school district website at www.bcsd101.com.
The board is accepting letters of interest in completing the term for Zone 3 trustee. The letters need to be turned in at the district office no later than Sept. 7.
