This Week in History — 50 years ago — 1973: "A fire broke out in a timbered area on Mission Hill, three miles west of Bonners Ferry Monday afternoon, and burned over 90 acres of Kootenai Tribal lands.

"Bill Maas, Fire Warden for the Department of Public Lands, said that the blaze was man-caused. Maas headed a crew of 30 state fire-fighters from Bonners Ferry and Sandpoint who successfully controlled the fire by late Monday evening. Crews were 'mopping up' Tuesday, he said."
