BONNERS FERRY — Boundary County Library received a grant from the Idaho Stem Action Center and has been able to offer a summer robotics program.

“The grant allowed the library to purchase 6 Lego Spike Prime kits as well as 6 Chromebooks for programming,” BCL librarian Julie Newhouse said. “So far the junior engineers have designed and programmed their robots to complete a maze which was built and donated by community member Sam Carey.”

Robotics sessions last for two weeks and give the teams time to design and program several times to find the fastest course through the maze.

Isaiah and Ian Purdom were the maze champions with a time of 7.38 seconds.

Bonners Ferry High School robotics team Alpha+ 2130 have generously donated their time to mentoring the teams, Newhouse said.

“We are excited to start the youth in programs to help develop interest and skills in STEM related fields and be introduced to the robotics programs in the community,” she said.
