Badger baseball and softball players earned all-league honors, with Bonners Ferry High School junior Trey Bateman named MVP for the second year in a row.

Kaylee Sumpter, a Bonners Ferry senior, was named softball Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Badger softball head coach Cynthia Sumpter said Kaylee is a hardworking athlete.

“She is probably the best first baseman I have seen,” Sumpter said. “She is a great team leader and we will definitely miss her next year.”

Also earning all-league honors from Bonners Ferry are seniors Blake Rice, Teigan Banning and David Hammons.

Head Bonners Ferry baseball coach Tom Turpin spoke about each Badger receiving recognition.

“Blake Rice is just an overall outstanding athlete with raw power,” Turpin said. “Blake had another great season in the field, at the plate and got some pitching in for us which was huge. Blake hit three home runs in a matter of just two days this year, that was quite a feat.”

“Teigan Banning has been a tremendous asset and versatile player for us during his high school career. He's played almost every position for us and did a great job for us this year both behind the plate and on the mound,” he said.

“David Hammons’ junior year at the plate was average for a high school player. What he did his senior year was phenomenal in a one year period,” he said. “He was a different person at the plate this year being in command of his at bat's, driving the ball hard and driving in runs. He played first base and did an incredible job securing that position. Very proud of his senior year.”

“Trey Bateman continued the dominance of Badger MVP's in the IML dating back to 2015 with 8 straight years of Badger MVP's. He also won this prestigious award last year and continued to dominate both at the plate, on the mound and in the field. I am looking forward to his senior year,” Turpin said.
