City receives donations for flags at Memorial Park
BONNERS FERRY — The city of Bonners Ferry received donations for the flag maintenance at Memorial Park from the local Eagles and veteran groups at the April 18 council meeting.
Ben Apo, Veteran of Foreign Wars 3622 commander, said the funds were given to the veteran group from the Boundary County Middle School penny drive. The funds were raised as part of a fundraiser that students held last November with the proceeds being donated to local veteran groups.
BCMS raised $1,700. The funds were donated to the city by Matt Morgan from the Bonners Ferry Eagles, Mike Spurgeon with the Disabled American Veterans, Scott Cameron, the local American Legion commander, and Apo.
City staff said that the large flag at Memorial Park costs approximately $2,000.
