Moyea Chapter 31 — Order of the Eastern Star

Recently returning to Bonners Ferry and the Boundary County Museum are two boxes of Eastern Star memorabilia. The first chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star were formed when Idaho was still a territory. With the increase in population came the desire for social activities. In communities where there were enough Masons, interest arose in fraternal and social life that included both men and women. In the early days, the local chapter met in the I.O.O.F. Hall, and in January 1924, a dispensation was granted for Moyea Chapter to move into the new Masonic Temple.

Organization of Moyea Chapter 31 began on March 6, 1907, and the charter was officially granted on June 22, 1907. There were 18 charter members at the first regular meeting held on April 15, 1907, and 21 candidates were initiated during that year.

The chapter seal was received on Jan. 6, 1908, and the Bible and gavel were presented to Moyea Chapter on Oct. 8, 1908.

The year 1957-58 was a big year for Moyea Chapter, as Mabel T. Cash was elected as Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Idaho.

The local chapter merged with Martha Chapter 34 in Sandpoint in the early 2000s. Moyea Chapter's memories have returned home.
