FOR volunteers honored
BONNERS FERRY — Friends of the Restorium members have been honored for their services in 2022.
In the 1970s, a bill passed in the state of Idaho allowing counties to own assisted living facilities. From there, the Boundary County Restorium was born.
In 1983, the restoroum received an inspection, FOR Vice President Donna Jo Dirks said. There were several things that needed to be fixed by the next inspection and volunteers organized and fixed deficiencies by the next inspection.
This same spirit of volunteerism and support for the county’s elderly continues in Friends of the Restorium. Since 2003, FOR has continued on due to the help of volunteers such as Eli Pine, Phil McCormick, Loralee and Mark Carey, and Amanda Elsberry, the four members honored this year.
Pine, Elsberry and the Careys were involved in the walking fundraiser for the restorium in 2022.
McCormick volunteers as a van driver for FOR and takes Restorium members on drives to events and scenic drives.
He is also known to take residents out to ice cream, paying out of his own pocket, Dirks said.
