Woelfle joins local All-Star Team

Gordon Woelfle, 11, a member of the JB Tires Bonners Rockies Little League Team, was selected for the Sandpoint Little League All-Star Team out of the 19 players who applied to the team. Each Little League Charter is eligible to create a team to compete in the Little League tournament which culminates in the World Series.

Each Little League Majors coach voted on their top nine players who were then automatically placed on the roster. This year there was a tie for the ninth player and so 10 players automatically were given slots.

A tryout was held on Friday evening to determine the remaining two players for the 12-player roster.

Gordon is the only player from Bonners Ferry selected for the team. The right-armed pitcher and local Home Run Derby MVP said he is excited to join the team and continue playing baseball this summer. The 12 players, who range in age from 11 to 12, will compete in tournaments for pool play from June 30 to July 2 and July 7-9 in Coeur d'Alene.

If they qualify for districts, they will compete until they lose, with districts being held July 14-16 followed by the state contest July 21-23. The regional contest is in California the first week of August.
