Extra Law enforcement patrols for Fourth of July holiday

| June 29, 2023 1:00 AM

BOUNDARY COUNTY — Regional law enforcement reminds Idahoans and travelers to drive sober this Fourth of July weekend.

Idaho State Police and regional law enforcement will be working in unison across the Idaho Panhandle deploying additional resources for targeted and aggressive enforcement of Idaho’s DUI laws this Fourth of July weekend.

“In an effort to encourage safe decisions, and as part of the #DecideToRide initiative, our friends at Watkins Distributing in Hayden, ID have sponsored an Uber discount campaign for $10 off all Uber cab fares in North Idaho from 1 a.m. July 4, through 1 a.m. on July 5,” said Heather McDaniel, North Idaho DUI Task Force public information officer.

North Idaho DUI Task Force Community Meet, Greet, & Briefing is scheduled Friday, June 30 at 5 p.m. at the Anchored Coffee (451 W. Dalton Ave., Coeur d’Alene) parking lot. The Kootenai County Substance Abuse Council will also be present during this event to speak and present the “Top Cop” award to select recipients for their enforcement efforts in 2022.

This family friendly event is open to the public so we can share education and awareness of the dangers of impaired driving prior to our aggressive enforcement throughout the weekend. The Coeur d'Alene Police Department Mobile Command Center will be present along with Coeur d'Alene Fire, and officers from a multitude of agencies in the area.

Officers will also have vehicles on display for tours, and demonstrations of specialized equipment, “drunk goggle” experiences, and be available to engage with the community to speak and answer questions.
