MOYIE SPRINGS — A man is receiving treatment after local law enforcement responded and deescalated a possible suicide attempt. The March 3 incident temporarily closed the Moyie Bridge.

Boundary County Sheriff Dave Kramer told the Herald that BCSO Deputy Jason Trujillo located a male in a vehicle near the east end of the Moyie Bridge who had been reported as a possible suicidal individual from Kootenai County.

Bonners Ferry Police Department responded to help secure the bridge while other resources were en route, Kramer said.

“Deputy Trujillo did an outstanding job even as he put himself more at risk, as he continued to talk to the person, build rapport and convince the man to come out of the vehicle unarmed,” he said.

The man was transported for a mental health evaluation.

“I am extremely proud of the actions and compassion that Sheriff's Deputy Jason Trujillo displayed, and very appreciative of the other law enforcement agencies that responded to help keep this situation safe until it could be resolved,” Kramer said.
