| March 16, 2023 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Bonners Ferry Special Olympics athletes recently enjoyed a trip to Schweitzer for a great day of tubing and have been out practicing snowshoeing.

Officials said the team wanted to thank all the volunteers and employees at Schweitzer who made this event possible.

Throughout the year the team trains and competes in different sports and competitions.

In the fall of 2022, the team took big wins at the Idaho State Regional Bocce Ball Tournament, with Laurie Vaughn and Julie Weible taking first place overall. Mike Bjoraker took third place and Gavin Lee and Charlie Meeker took fifth place.

Special Olympics provides activities for people of all abilities in an inclusive environment.

Special Olympic participants must have a physical or intellectual disability and be 11 or older.
