SEASON OPENER: Track takes third at BF Invite

BONNERS FERRY — On the sunniest and perhaps warmest day of the year so far, both Badger track teams finished third at the Bonners Ferry Invite on March 18 against several area teams.

“The weather was amazing,” head Bonners Ferry coach Travis Hinthorn said. “Nobody complains when the weather is like that. Some of the region’s schools have not been on their tracks yet because of the snow, so everyone was very thankful for the opportunity to compete.”

Asha Abubakari, for Bonners Ferry, was named the female field athlete of the meet after taking first in the shot put and triple jump and finishing second in the discus and long jump.

In the 800m, Brooke Petesch took second place, with a time of 2:39.63. Markynn Pluid took second in long jump with a mark of 4-8. Mia Blackmore took second in the 100m hurdles and third in the 300m.

Badger girls took first in the sprint medley relay with a time of 2:06.36 (Lindsey Onstott, Kimberly Lucas, Ellie Falck, Brooke Petesch).

The Badger boys were strong in the relays taking second at the 4x200 relay.

Badger Logan Archibald took second in the high jump with Riley Petesch taking third, both clearing 5-6. Petesch also took third in triple jump cleaning 39-2 1/2.

Sandpoint boys (4A) took the team title and Sandpoint’s girls ran away with the team title with 214 points. Timberlake (3A) teams taking second place for both the boys and girls team.

Upper level athletes from the Badger track teams compete in the 21 team Lewiston Invite.
