A deal was concluded this week whereby W.E. Talmadge sold the Pastime Cigar Store to Frank Cuddy.
Bonners Ferry’s new high school was formally dedicated last Friday night and several hundred people filled the auditorium to listen to the dedicatory program which consisted of brief talks by Supt. T.S. Kerr, Major W.S. Walker and E.M. Flood, and selections by the high school chorus.
C.C. Thompson, of the firm of Kingston-Thompson, manufacturers of lumber and ties, was a business visitor in Porthill Tuesday.
50 Years Ago
Four members of the Kootenai Tribe and Wayne Nishek, Kootenai Community Representative, returned last week from Brigham City, Utah, where they attended a three-day session on leadership development for the tribe. Nishek said this was the first flight ever for Helen Cutsack, an elderly Kootenai woman. He said she called the Air West aircraft a “yellow grasshopper” and could not believe she was flying over a snowstorm. Others attending were Basil White, Mary White, and Matt David.
A large track record board was created for Bonners Ferry High School by Bob Allured, former track coach. The display shows all the track records at the high school and is exhibited in the new gymnasium.
X-rated movies are coming to Bonners Ferry on a trial basis starting Monday, April 2, when “Love Garden” appears at 7:30 p.m.

A panel of judges in San Francisco today, March 27, will hear an appeal by environmentalists to stop a 4,000-acre logging project in Boundary County. County Commissioners and officials from Bonners Ferry and Moyie Springs on Tuesday expressed hope that the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals would agree with the U.S. Forest Service’s decision to proceed with the Mission Brush project in the Idaho Panhandle.
A hacker is believed to have taken over the Boundary County School District’s web page on March 18. The hacker, who apparently identified himself as the devil, replaced information about the district and include things like “asking for peace in the world” and “no war,” said superintendent Dr. Don Bartling.
Three-time Bonners Ferry placer Samantha Hiatt earned 17 of the Lady Badgers’ 40 points during the Lewiston 2008 Track Invite on March 22. Bonners Ferry girls placed 10th in the event.
