BCMS 8th grade basketball teams take first in league
BONNERS FERRY — Both eighth-grade basketball teams at Boundary County Middle School are league champs after the 75th middle school basketball tournament.
The girls won 33-20 in their final game with an 8-1 record. The boys finished 10-1 defeating St. Maries in a tough win.
Eighth-grade girls coach Brion Poston said the girls have been playing together since fourth grade through an AAU team, which he also coaches.
“They are a good bunch of kids and in AAU the girls went two seasons undefeated,” he said.
He added the future looks bright for the Badger girls basketball team and other Bonners Ferry High School sports as the Class of 2027 moves up to high school next year.
Eighth-grade boys coach Greg Kissee said they are a great group of kids that he’s been coaching since fifth grade in AAU.
“They played hard every time on the floor. I’m proud of them,” he said.
Kissee thanked the parents for the support of the team, especially with early morning trips down to Post Falls for the game.
He also thanked the community for coming out and supporting the middle school teams for the past 75 years.
