| May 4, 2023 1:05 AM

BONNERS FERRY—The U.S. Fire Service will pay tribute to the lives of firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2022 and in previous years during the 42nd National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service on Sunday, May 7.

A local memorial ceremony will also be held on Friday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m., at the main City Fire station in downtown Bonners Ferry. At the local ceremony, the list of Idaho firefighters who have died in the line of duty since 1894 will be featured.

During the national service in Emmitsburg, Maryland, a bronze plaque bearing the names of the

fallen will be officially added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

In Boundary County, the public is invited as the names of the fallen are read aloud in a program that includes several fire service traditions historically employed to honor the dead and the presentation of the nation’s colors by the Boundary County Fire Rescue Honor Guard.

The ceremony will be preceded by a parade of fire apparatus which begins at Super 1 and ends at the Main Fire Station.

The program will begin at 5:30 p.m., and is sponsored by Boundary County Chaplain Corps.
