“Don Avery of Copeland raised a half Hereford, half Simmental bull from the fall of 1972 to spring of 1973.” — BF Herald, May 10, 1973

The bull weighed 598 pounds when weaned from its mother. Don took his bull to the Lacross, Wash., bull test station; and it weighed in at 793 pounds. Returning home with the bull, he nurtured and feed the animal for the 205-day period required for the test. The growth progress of Don’s bull was monitored for the bull test station. After the 205 days, Don took his bull back to Washington. The bull weighed in at 1,305 pounds, averaging 3.66 pounds a day. The bull topped the weight of 90 bulls in the test.

Don Avery had raised the heaviest bull in the test.
