BONNERS FERRY — Four candidates are vying for two Boundary County Library Trustee positions for Zones 3 and 5 for the May 16 election.

Zone 3: Running as incumbent Aaron Bohachek and Lewis Clark, for the six-year term.

Zone 3 covers Bonners Ferry east of the U.S. 95, a small portion north of Kootenai River, east to the bank of the Kootenai River and north of the western part of Kootenai Trail.

Zone 5: Running as incumbent William “Lee” Colson and Mary-Esther Wilson, for two years, completing a six-year turn. Trustees terms are for six years, but these candidates are set to complete the term that was previously filled by the late Judith “Judy” Mace.

Zone 5 covers south of Bonners Ferry and south of Kootenai Trail until the county line.

BCL zones historically follow the Boundary County School District trustee zones. Currently, BCSD appealed the new zone map to the state, due to the state that aligns with the historic townships and geographic barriers. A new zone map is forthcoming and will be used in the November BCSD trustee election.

The BCL trustees had adopted the new zone map at the Feb. 16 meeting, but due to the map being under appeal and not legal for use, they reverted to the 2011 zone map at a special meeting on March 8. A move they were advised to follow by their legal council. BCSD and Boundary County officials wrote a letter in support of the BCL reverting to the former zone map.
