BCRCC was open-minded, voted on record

Local media has been quick to allow Rep. Sauter to counter the vote of “no confidence” by the Bonner County Republican Central Committee. Unfortunately, his droning blather put forth so many issues needing to be answered that 250 words cannot properly address and may take several letters to accomplish.

I’ll start with the basics. Sauter may say he represents all citizens, but he will not remind you that he only won his primary with 38% of the Republican voters. The empty seat left by the redistricting of Rep. Scott (who consistently receives IFF ratings near 100%) attracted five candidates, therefore, splitting the vote.

The Democrat Steve Johnson campaigned for the same position, but when Sauter won the primary, the Democrats knew they had their approved "Republican" and had Johnson switch to run as a write-in for Senate instead. This move clearly shows Sauter as acceptable to the Democrats and made him a guaranteed winner in the general election.

The BCRCC remained open-minded and vigilantly watched his first legislative session. Its members are the county’s elected representatives of the Republican Party. It is charged with holding its elected officials accountable to the party platform. Sauter’s votes reflect his socialist leanings and became clear to the BCRCC. Based on his actions and inactions, the committee unanimously voted for no confidence to notify the Republicans of the district to his record of violating the GOP platform.
